Danuta Gray
Chairman of Telefonica O2 and Award Winning Business Woman

Danuta Gray is Chairman of Telefonica O2 in Ireland having been the CEO from 2001-2010 with over 20 years of experience in the telecommunications and mobile phone sector.  When she took on the role of Chief Executive at O2 in 2001, the company had a customer base of 1 million and Danuta led the company through significant changes and growth to 1.7 million.     O2 Ireland was recognised over the years for it's innovation in marketing and brand, as a great place to work and a leader in the field of corporate social responsibility. The company won numerous awards including Best Place to Work in 2005.    
 
Prior to moving to Ireland Danuta was a Senior Vice President for BT Europe in Germany having spent most of her career in the UK with a short period in the USA and she has experience in sales, marketing, customer service and technology and in leading and changing large businesses.   

Danuta serves as a non-executive director on the board of Aer Lingus plc and was previously on the board of Irish Life and Permanent plc and Business in the Community.   In addition to remaining as Chairman of the Irish business, Danuta works on a non-executive basis for Telefonica in Germany and chairs their European CSR Programme.   She is also studying for an Executive Doctorate at Cranfield School of Management looking at the development of women leaders in business.  She works part time as an executive coach in the UK and Ireland.
 
Danuta is a strong advocate for a number of charities.  She is a former Chairman and current board member of the children’s charity, the Barretstown Gang Camp.   Danuta was also instrumental in selecting Irish Autism Action (IAA) as O2’s charity of choice from 2005 – 2010. IAA is an organisation which provides services for children with autism and their families.  Danuta is passionate about the value of difference and the ability of people with disabilities in the workplace.  She spearheaded the company’s support for the O2 Ability Awards, together with social enterprise charity Kanchi, headed by Caroline Casey.  The O2 Ability Awards are the first Irish business awards which recognise best practice for the inclusion of people with disabilities as customers, employees and members of the community. This unique initiative has since been taken up by Telefónica, with the first Ability Awards outside Ireland taking place in Spain in January 2011.

Danuta has been recognised as a business leader in a variety of awards including Irish  Business Woman of the Year 2008, Ireland's Most Trusted Leader by the Great Places to Work Institute in 2010, Business and Finance Business Person of the Year 2010 and was awarded an Honorary Fellow of the National University of Ireland.
    
She has spoken at a number of conferences and company events including IBEC, Microsoft, IBM, Trinity College Dublin, Irish Management Institute, Ulster Bank and Google and speaks on a number of business issues such as leadership, leading change, women in business, consumer marketing and CSR.
